Nigeria seeks foreign partnership on research, innovation


WorldStage Newsonline-- Nigeria’s Minister of Science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has said that the country was willing to partner with any country in the area of research, development and innovations.

Speaking while hosting the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran to Nigeria, H.E. Morteza Zarchi in his office, Onu  commended the Ambassador  for the good work he has  done to promote good relationship between Iran and Nigeria , stressing that both countries have had warm relationship and that   with time the relationship would  grow from strength to strength.

He said,  "I commend Iran for your commitment in using science and technology for nation building. One of the conferences I attended representing the country in Pakistan, your Minister of Science and technology told us that Iran as of last year, you were investing 1.2% of your GDP in science and technology.

"That was a major boast and there is that decision to even boast allocation of more resources to science and technology because you understand and appreciate the importance and relevance of science an technology to nation building.

"In Nigeria, we are also working to use the tools of science and  technology, as well as innovation? for nation building. Nigeria is working very hard to achieve this and we will be very happy to cooperate with you l. We believe that science and technology will help Nigeria to use our resources  more efficiently in order to create jobs

"We want to see how Nigerians that are poor, both in urban and rural areas  can be given new ?skills and with those skills they will be able to create wealth both for themselves and the country. The best route to take is science and technology. We will be very happy to cooperate with any country that is willing to work with us in terms of research and innovation."

The Iranian Ambassador expressed confident  that both countries  could  have good negotiations on topics of science and technology.
